About Changi Village

Changi Village is the coastal settlement that kept the Changi name after the airport took the rest of the map. Kampongs along this coast lived off fishing and farming until the 1970s. The village itself grew after Changi Cantonment opened in 1937, as shops served the British base. HDB built five blocks with shops on the ground floor and a market-hawker centre after the attap houses were cleared. The ferry terminal at 51 Lorong Bekukong opened in 2005. Bumboats to Pulau Ubin still leave from here. Sree Ramar Temple (1946) and Yan Kit Village Chinese Temple (1939) sit in the village. Little Island Brewing Co is in Block 6, closed Mondays. Bus 109 from the airport. Buses 2, 29, 59 from Tanah Merah and Tampines. This row is the neighbourhood, not the hawker stall list.
