Market
Changi Village Hawker Centre
Hawker centre opened 1975 as part of the Changi Point recreation plan. Nasi lemak is the Saturday reason to come. A market place, not a mall.
About Changi Village Hawker Centre
The centre was finished in 1975 after the British withdrawal left the old village short of customers. By 1976 it had 74 cooked-food stalls and 78 market stalls. Lunch used to be soldiers, airport workers, and Loyang factory staff. Evenings were nearby residents. It was upgraded in 2000 and closed about ten months in 2012 for another round. NHB's hawker story is the source for that history. Malay stalls, especially nasi lemak, are why east-siders still drive here. Pair it with the Ubin queue or the boardwalk. Stall hours are individual. Confirm a favourite stall before a dawn trip.
