A Touch and Taste of Peranakan Heritage at Jewel: Food, Costumes and Canopy Bridge

Jewel Changi Airport and the Baba Nyonya restaurant have built an all-in-one Peranakan cultural experience that runs from 1 August to 31 December 2026. For a flat ticket price, you get a guided Nyonya food sampling platter, a bookmark-making workshop, a try-on of traditional Peranakan attire, same-day admission to the Mastercard Canopy Bridge dressed in that attire, and a five-dollar Jewel retail voucher. The whole thing takes roughly 90 minutes and is one of the few ticketed attractions at Jewel that asks you to do something rather than just look at something.

The experience is set inside the Baba Nyonya restaurant at unit #05-204 on Jewel's Level 5, which is the floor most visitors walk straight past on their way to Canopy Park. Five daily slots run at 10:30am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30pm, capped at 20 participants per slot. Booking ahead is the sensible move; the slots during the August National Day weekend filled early, and the weekend slots through the rest of the year are likely to go the same way as the school holidays approach.

What the ticket actually includes

The standard adult price is SGD 49, with a child rate of SGD 42 for ages 3 to 12. Singapore residents, which covers citizens, permanent residents and valid pass holders, pay SGD 46 for adults and SGD 39 for children. Every child ticket must be accompanied by a paying adult. The price bundles together several things that would otherwise cost more bought separately: the Nyonya food sampler, the bookmark workshop materials, the attire rental, a same-day Mastercard Canopy Bridge ticket, and same-day access to Canopy Park including Discovery Slides, Foggy Bowls, Petal Garden and Topiary Walk.

The food sampler is a single serving of Nyonya dishes, and the kitchen flags a clear allergen note. The platter contains peanuts and seafood, and a meat-free option is available if you ask staff when you arrive. The attire try-on is the part most people come for. For women, the staff ask you to bring a white innerwear or camisole, or you can buy one on-site at Baba Nyonya for five dollars. The costume goes over it. You then walk to the Mastercard Canopy Bridge in costume, which is one of the better photo opportunities at Jewel, since the bridge sits 50 metres above the Forest Valley floor and frames the Rain Vortex behind you.

How the itinerary works

The flow is fixed. You arrive at Baba Nyonya 15 minutes before your slot. You eat the food sampler, do the bookmark workshop, and try on the attire. Then you walk to the Mastercard Canopy Bridge in costume, take your photos, and come back to Baba Nyonya to return the costume, collect the bookmark you made, and pick up the five-dollar Jewel retail voucher. The rest of the day is yours to spend in Canopy Park, since the ticket already includes it.

The experience is built for the National Day season but runs all the way to 31 December 2026, so it outlasts the August festive rush. For visitors who want a structured cultural activity rather than another mall walk, this is the closest thing Jewel has offered to a workshop-plus-attraction package. The Peranakan angle is also genuinely local. The Baba Nyonya cuisine and the kebaya costume tradition are specific to the Straits Chinese community of this region, not a generic pan-Asian showcase, which is why the National Day programming leaned into it.
